Dentures are removable dental appliances that are created to replace any missing teeth. When teeth are missing, dentures are an important factor in keeping the teeth and mouth in frame.
There are two types of dentures: complete and partial. Complete dentures are designed for patients missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures fill the spaces for just a few missing teeth along an arch. When missing any teeth, partial dentures help to prevent other teeth from shifting positions in your mouth.
- Replace the complete loss of all teeth in the upper or lower arch.
- Enhance your facial tissues and smile.
- Replace the partial loss of teeth in the upper or lower arch.
- Improve digestion, chewing, and speech.
The procedure requires several scheduled visits to the practice over the course of a few weeks. At these appointments, accurate molds of your mouth will be taken to provide customized dentures. Preliminary appointments are sometimes necessary to perfectly match the shape, color, and fit of the denture to your mouth. At the last appointment, your dentures will be ready to be adjusted and placed by Dr. Bhanji for a comfortable, natural fit.
After receiving your dentures, anticipate an adjustment time for your tissues and muscles. During this short adjustment period, it is not uncommon to experience soreness, saliva flow increase, and possible chewing and/or speech difficulty. Remember that this is normal and your mouth will be fully heal and adjust to your new dentures in time.
Additional instructions regarding the care and maintenance of your dentures will be given by Dr. Bhanji. Always maintain proper hygiene and cleaning as they will help with the longevity of your dentures.
